Objectives

Skills for Care North East is the employer lead strategic workforce development body for social care in the region.

  • Work in consultation with employers, training providers, staff, carers and people who use care services
  • Ensure qualifications and standards continually adapt to meet the changing needs of social care workers, employers and people who use care services
  • Distribute funding for the sector to develop skills and qualifications
  • We have in membership the key strategic social care partners/leaders in the region.
  • In combination we are responsible for the design of the systems to deliver the workforce agenda and to hold each other to account.
  • It draws its mandate and strength from the membership, which in combination provides leadership for the sector.
  • The ways in which we act and behave and the decisions we take within our own agencies and collectively drive this agenda.
  • Use the National Minimum Dataset for Social Care (see 'Data Research' section) to create a profile of more than million social care workers for the very first time.
  • Collectively we hold the current and future capability of the workforce.

We have responsibility for facilitating this process and to provide direction on the basis of national priorities and to deliver national programmes; the membership is responsible for ensuring delivery and to agree and deliver regional priorities.

Our vision is to:

  • Put employers in the driving seat on social care workforce issues
  • Create a trained and qualified workforce providing high quality care
  • Provide an expert voice to the social care workforce
